THE APT CHRONICLE UI/UX

Design Vision
The Apt Chronicle is a living archive of New York’s invisible histories.
Through gentle, memory-driven design, it invites everyday residents to preserve their homes as cultural artifacts—transforming personal spaces into shared narratives across time, race, and place.

Key Features & Prototype

This app transforms a single living space into a layered chronicle, where the cultural identities and lived experiences of immigrant communities are individually preserved yet interwoven. The design strategy treats each story as an autonomous narrative that, together, amplifies the significance of the shared space.

Branding (Logo, Typography & Motion)

To represent the diverse immigrant communities of New York, I designed logo variations using the 11 most commonly spoken languages in the city:

  • English: Apartment

  • Spanish (Español): Apartamento

  • Simplified Chinese (简体中文): 公寓 (Gōngyù)

  • Haitian Creole (Kreyòl Ayisyen): Apatman

  • Hindi (हिन्दी): अपार्टमेंट (Apārṭmeṇṭ)

  • Korean (한국어): 아파트 (Apateu)

  • Russian (Русский): квартира (Kvartira)

  • Arabic (العربية): شَقَّة (Shaqqah)

  • Italian (Italiano): Appartamento

  • French (Français): Appartement

  • Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt): Căn hộ

Inspired by the window frames of the Tenement Museum, the custom typography “Orchard” offers a new frame—both literally and conceptually—for viewing immigrant culture and living spaces in New York City.
Aligned with this perspective, the app’s primary typeface is Neue World, a globalized version of Helvetica that reflects the typographic language most commonly seen across the city.
